How it works
If your blitz percentile is 88, your rating is higher than 88% of the players counted — roughly the top 12%. Lichess counts only active players (accounts with recent rated games in that time control), so abandoned accounts do not distort the rank.
Only Lichess is supported: neither Chess.com nor FIDE publishes a documented percentile endpoint, and we do not show numbers we cannot source reliably.

Frequently asked questions
Why is my online percentile so different from FIDE?
The pools differ: anyone can join Lichess, while the FIDE pool contains only tournament players — already a strong, self-selected group. Top 10% on Lichess corresponds to a much lower percentile among FIDE-rated players.
Is my username sent anywhere or stored?
The request goes directly from your browser to the Lichess API and nothing is stored; only public profile data is read. The username is also excluded from our analytics events.
What does "active players" mean?
Players with recent rated games in that time control, not every account ever registered. An account with no recent rated games may get no percentile at all.
