How the conversion works
There is no official conversion — each pool computes ratings with its own algorithm over its own players, so any cross-system mapping is an empirical estimate. This calculator uses median ratings from the ChessGoals.com survey (2025 update) of players active in two systems at once, interpolated through a Chess.com blitz anchor and rounded to 5 points. Inputs outside the surveyed range are rejected rather than extrapolated.
The medians hide a wide spread — the ranges below cover the middle 50% of players, and your own equivalent can easily differ by that much.
| Rating system | Typical spread | Sample size |
|---|---|---|
| Chess.com bullet | ±130 | 9,249 |
| Chess.com rapid | ±115 | 10,193 |

| FIDE | ±85 | 1,873 |
| Lichess blitz | ±75 | 2,489 |
| Lichess bullet | ±120 | 1,945 |
| Lichess rapid | ±100 | 1,344 |

Frequently asked questions
Why are Lichess ratings higher than Chess.com ratings?
Different starting points and player pools: Lichess starts new accounts at 1500, Chess.com lower. Neither site is "easier" — the same player simply gets a different number. The gap is large at club level and almost disappears above 2500.
How accurate are these conversions?
They are medians, not exact mappings: half of surveyed players fall within the ± range shown above, a quarter outside it on each side. Treat the output as a ballpark, not a promise.
Which time control should I compare?
Compare like with like: blitz to blitz, rapid to rapid. For over-the-board estimates, slower online time controls are the better predictor; bullet is the least transferable.
